Reality TelevisionAs you know, this is the first newsletter of the Hodges Highlights. I felt impressed by the Lord to bring about the attention of something that has become very popular on television. This new trend that seems to be growing rapidly is the “reality shows.” These reality television shows have brought about the fact that people will do anything for money and fame. Whether it comes to eating live worms and maggots or hanging your body hundreds of feet in the air, the “almighty dollar” seems to be the god that receives the utmost of sacrifices. The truth of the matter is that everyone is a fanatic about something. Being a good fanatic for God, though, still seems to be wrong and ridiculous according to the “status quo” of our modern society. Another thing that has been brought to attention is how people seem to have become so “bloodthirsty” for violence and various other perverse things. The Golden Rule for Hollywood seems to be “the sleezier and more gross, the better.” Jesus said in John 3:19, “…and men loved darkness rather than light.” Now with this in mind, mankind is getting more involved in the darkness and getting used to it. A great way to illustrate this is when I used to go to the movie theater in my younger, unsaved years. A few times I would arrive late for the movie and after paying for the ticket, I would enter the extremely dark theater with the movie already playing. After stumbling to find a seat and sitting in the dark awhile, my eyes started adjusting to the darkness and I began to notice objects of my surrounding. In a spiritual sense, people have been sitting in the dark theater of wickedness so long that their eyes have gotten too adjusted and they no longer see anything wrong with sin anymore. As our society gets more depraved in these last days, the reality television shows couldn’t have come at a better time. I personally believe that when the trumpet sounds (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) and the raptured saints are gone which will spring forth the Great Tribulation here on earth, these shows will be gladly used by the Antichrist to televise his fury upon those who don’t receive his mark (Revelation 13). Of course that doesn’t mean that Christians will not go through intense persecution before the Rapture, just as the earlier born-again believers did. And if that were to happen, we just might be the next “stars of the show.” The reality of it all is that we better start praying earnestly for a Holy Ghost sent revival to sweep this land and it would help if we first get out of the “dark theaters” of our minds and see reality how God sees it (Romans 12:2).
